I'm used to other keyboard trays that are adjusted with a handle, so it took me a bit of time to get used to this tray's unique ways of adjusting its position. However, it is a superbly adjustable keyboard tray. It can tilt anywhere between -15 degrees and +10 degrees. Negative tilt is ergonomically best for most people. Even better, the level of the mouse tray is separately adjustable from the keyboard tray, so after you set the keyboard tilt the way you like, you can make the mouse tray level again. Many other keyboard trays will not do this and on such trays, the mouse may roll on its own in synch with the keyboard tilt. I rarely like wrist rests, but they feel great on the 3M, with the tray adjusted ergonomically.
If your desk isn't too short relative to your personal height, you can slide the tray out and then up high enough to turn your sitting desk into a sit-stand workstation. Working while standing at times during the day is very helpful to your long-suffering back. When you're done working, you can reposition the tray to slide all the way under the desk. (Slide your tray out all the way and read the newly revealed label if you're having trouble figuring how to do that; this stumped me for awhile until I found that label.)
The keyboard tray can be adjusted from side-to-side a few inches if it wasn't centered the way you like after installation. It also rotates in an arc side-to-side if you just move it that way.
The keyboard tray has a very solid feel. It's heavy and well-constructed and feels like it will last for years. It's remarkably well engineered.
HOWEVER--this keyboard tray loses one big star from me for one of the lamest Owner's Manuals I have EVER seen from any big corporation. This manual needs a total redo. 3M needs to sit a few new purchasers down with the box and the instructions and watch them try to unpack and assemble the tray to a desk and then start using it, and 3M will quickly see the problems the company created with its manual. The assembly of this tray took me much longer than necessary due to poor instructions. And after assembly is completed, the only instructions for users on how to perform all the adjustments the tray can do are found on the tray itself, and some of those require pulling the tray out to read. I'm sure I'm not the only user who finished assembling this tray and said, I can't figure out how to adjust the tilt or height, I can't figure out how to slide the tray all the way back under my desk, etc. I wasted time searching the manual and in trial and error with the two labels on the unit before I got it.
ALSO--I had to modify assembly of the tray because of the design my desk, and I'm sure I'm not alone, there, either. So read on to make sure this tray will work with your desk. (When I say it took me much longer than necessary to assemble the tray, I'm not counting this modification time.)
To assemble this unit, you start by attaching a track to the underside of your desk through which the tray slides. The track has dimensions of 23" deep by 6" across. Now if the underside of your desk, where you want the sliding tray positioned, doesn't have 23.5" depth of flat area from the front edge of your desk towards the rear without being blocked by any other objects on the underside of your desk, this tray will not work unmodified for you, because you won't be able to screw the track into flat underside of your desk with screws that need to hold a lot of weight. I have an Ikea desk table which has steel framing bars extending left to right across the underside of the middle of my desk which makes it impossible to install the track unmodified. I told my daughter, "I'll have to return this; it doesn't fit my desk."
She took one look at it and, clearly smarter than me, said, "No, Dad, you just have to attach two blocks of wood that are as thick as that steel bar to the underside of your desk. Attach them on either side of the steel bar blocking the track. Buy longer screws to screw the track through the blocks of wood to the underside of the desk." She was absolutely right. It worked great.
Be careful, if you go this route, to buy screws long enough to set at least 0.5" into the underside of your desk but not so long as to punch through the top surface of your desk. Measure and drill pilot holes with great care.
